Zomato is
the story of two friends who had this unusual idea of helping people who were
stuck in food courts looking at the menu.
Ever seen
those big LCDs on top of the restaurants? People used to look at those menus
and then order food. That was something that Zomato wanted to change.
So they
replicated the menus on their website. It was an internal website at that time
only. It means employees of a company could see the menu and the people who had
access to it. Soon more employees of different companies started checking the
menus and the traffic increased to the site.
So they
made the menus public and soon everyone who was coming to food courts across Mumbai
was looking at these menus through the website. They started covering more
restaurants and brought a mobile app so that people could have the app in their
smartphones, and they could check the menu from it.
This ramped
up pretty soon and they added orders to the site so that people who wanted to order
online could do so directly from the app.

Zomato grew?
A simple
idea that helped people order at restaurants caught on and it continued from
their onwards. People now order everything online through Zomato. The company has
presence in over 22 countries and counting. It is one of the biggest food
portal available in the market.
